Steel Cut Oats in the crockpot
One thing that I love about speaking at different MOPS groups is that I always end up learning something new myself! At a recent MOPS talk I gave one woman shared that she made steel cut oats overnight with the use of her crockpot. What a fabulous idea! So, I looked up some recipes online and I’m going to give it a try.
On one of the posts someone had left a comment that they cook steel cut oats overnight a different way. The commenter suggests that one can simply “bring 3 cups water, 1/4-1/2 tsp. salt and 1 cup steel cut oats to a boil. Cover the pan and remove from heat. In the morning, put what you’ll eat into a microwaveable bowl and warm it up.” I thought this option sounded even easier than hauling out the crockpot so I plan to give this a go as well.
Trader Joe’s sells steel cut oats pre-cooked in it’s freezer section. This suggests that steel cut oats might freeze well so if there are any leftovers I’m going to try to freeze a portion.

To your overnight oats recipe, add maple extract and cinnamon and raisins….and ground flaxseed. Yum. Serve hot with maple syrup, yogurt or applesauce.
